Phase III Sidewalk Project!

new sidewalk completeThis past summer, the Board asked our Management company to solicit bids for Phase III of the sidewalk project (Hot Creek Trace to Atasca Woods Trace, along Aerobic). We received 3 bids ranging from a low bid of $12,650.00 up to a high bid of about $17,000.00. The Board met on-site with the low-bidder to discuss details of the bid and we were satisfied with the answers given by the contractor. We formally awarded the bid to the low bidder and he completed the project in late August, before school started. We hope you enjoy the new sidewalk! We know the three young AW residents pictured at right appreciate the new way to school!

Extra Security Patrols have helped!

The Atasca Woods Board has recently approved the expenditure of additional money (over and above) the amount budgeted to security in our current budget. This decision was made due to homeowner complaints regarding speeding and issues relating to crime and mischievous activity after school by AHS students. The Board is very satisfied with this program and we have received many positive comments from our residents. Areas of focus have been; community contact, speeders, stop sign violations, playground/pool area patrol, loud music from vehicles and drug enforcement. If Cpl. Cearley stops by to visit while you are out in the yard, please speak openly to him about any concerns that you may have. He will also pass information that he learns on patrol to the other Atascocita units. Report crime to 281-376-3472! If you have a special request for focus by this patrol, please email board@atascawoods.org.

Fall / Winter right around the corner!

The Texas summer was especially brutal this year! Record heat and very little rain have really put a damper on our yards! While water conservation is important, it is also important to maintain our yards to keep the value of our homes up and our community looking good! The focus should be on eliminating water waste! You can do this by limiting your water sessions to no more than 30 minutes per section and also hand watering plants and trees. A slow drip at the base of trees (until you see water runoff) is a good way to water your trees. They especially need special consideration during these unusual weather times. And just because the heat is slowly disappearing, doesn’t mean we should stop watering! Plants / root systems need water during the winter also!

The Board would like to emphasize the need to water your home foundation during these drought conditions. Keeping the soil around your homes foundation moist will reduce the possibility of a cracked foundation, which will also lead to a very expensive repair!

Barking Dogs & Stray Cats

Barking dogs and stray cats continue to be a big complaint from residents! Dog owners, please respect your neighbors and insure that your dog does not bark during the day and night! This is a common complaint received from many of our neighbors! Please respect your neighbors and keep barking dogs to a minimum! If you encounter stray cats or dogs, please call Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES) at (281) 999-3191. They also have a “TRAPPING SERVICE” where they will deliver a free trap to your home to trap stray animals. All you have to do is bait the trap and call them when you have captured a stray animal. They will then come to your home and pick up the stray. They will then attempt to give the animal to a caring home and family or find the owner. Visit their web site at www.countypets.com.
